About EnergySorted

What is EnergySorted?

EnergySorted is an independent Australian energy comparison and monitoring service. It costs every electricity and gas plan the regulator publishes against your real usage, ranks them by actual annual cost, and re-checks the market nightly so you stay on the cheapest plan. It is funded by subscriptions and takes no retailer commissions.

How does EnergySorted work?

EnergySorted reads your real usage from a recent bill, then costs every AER-listed electricity and gas plan against that usage, including time-of-use rates, solar feed-in and controlled load. It ranks the plans cheapest first and proves the number against your current bill, so the saving is real rather than an estimate. It then re-checks the whole market every night and alerts you when a cheaper plan appears.

Is EnergySorted independent?

Yes. EnergySorted takes no commissions from energy retailers. You pay a small subscription, and in return it compares every plan the regulator publishes and ranks them honestly on your real usage. It answers to you, not to retailers, so nothing in the ranking is for sale.

Who is EnergySorted for?

EnergySorted is for any Australian household or small business on a competitive energy market (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA or the ACT) that wants to stop overpaying without comparing plans by hand. It is especially useful for homes with solar, time-of-use tariffs or controlled load, where the cheapest plan is hard to work out manually.

Cost, trial and guarantee

How much does EnergySorted cost?

Your first 30 days are free with no card required. After that EnergySorted is $39/year a year (about $3.25/mo a month) or $4.99/month month to month, backed by a first-year savings guarantee.

Is EnergySorted free?

EnergySorted is free for the first 30 days with no card required, then it becomes a paid subscription. It stays a paid, commission-free service on purpose: because members pay for it, the rankings answer to you rather than to the retailers that would otherwise pay to appear.

Does EnergySorted have a savings guarantee?

Yes. If EnergySorted does not find you savings worth more than the subscription in your first paid year, it refunds the subscription. The comparison is built from your own bill, so the saving it shows is one you can verify before you switch.

Is EnergySorted worth it?

For most households, yes. A single switch to a genuinely cheaper plan usually saves far more than the roughly $39-a-year subscription, and nightly re-checks keep the saving as prices move. EnergySorted also reproduces your current bill first, so you can see the value before you commit, and it is backed by a savings guarantee.

EnergySorted vs the alternatives

EnergySorted vs Energy Made Easy: what is the difference?

Energy Made Easy is the free government comparison site, and it gives a useful ballpark from a single usage figure or an estimate. EnergySorted goes further: it reads your real time-of-use usage, solar export and controlled load from your actual bill, costs the whole market on that, proves the result against your current bill, and then re-checks nightly and alerts you. Energy Made Easy is a one-off estimate; EnergySorted is ongoing, bill-accurate monitoring.

EnergySorted vs comparison sites like iSelect or Compare the Market?

Sites such as iSelect, Compare the Market and Canstar Blue are paid by retailers through referral commissions, so they typically show only the plans that pay them and rank by what earns them the most. EnergySorted takes no commissions. It compares every AER-listed retailer and ranks purely by what is cheapest for your usage, which is why it can recommend a plan a commissioned site never would.

Is EnergySorted better than my retailer’s own plan check?

Your own retailer can only move you between its own plans. EnergySorted compares every retailer in your area on the same real usage, so it finds the cheapest plan across the whole market, not just the best of one brand. It also keeps checking after you switch, so you do not drift back to overpaying.

Does EnergySorted really save money?

EnergySorted only ever shows a saving built from your own bill, never a generic promise. It reproduces your current cost to within a few percent, then costs the whole market on the same basis, so the saving it reports is one you can check line by line. Savings vary by household and current plan, and the result is backed by a first-year savings guarantee.

Switching and saving

Does switching energy plans interrupt my power or gas?

No. Your electricity and gas are delivered over the same poles, wires and pipes no matter which retailer bills you. Switching plans or retailers never cuts your supply, changes your reliability or requires any work at your property. The only thing that changes is who sends the bill and what you pay.

How often does EnergySorted check for a better plan?

Every night. EnergySorted re-costs the whole market against your usage each night and alerts you by email and in your dashboard when a better-value plan appears, so a deal that was cheapest when you switched does not quietly become expensive.

Do I need my bill to use EnergySorted?

A recent bill gives the most accurate result, because it carries your real usage, supply charge, solar feed-in and time-of-use split. EnergySorted reads it from a PDF or a photo. You can still get an indicative comparison by entering your usage manually if you prefer.

Coverage

Which states and fuels does EnergySorted cover?

EnergySorted compares electricity and gas across the competitive national-market states: NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and the ACT. Western Australia and the Northern Territory are not on the national market, so there is no retailer to switch to there. The cheapest-fuel map is live in NSW and WA, with more states rolling out.

Does EnergySorted compare gas as well as electricity?

Yes. EnergySorted compares gas plans, priced in cents per megajoule across stepped tiers, alongside electricity. When you have both an electricity and a gas bill on file it can also show a combined gas-and-power figure so you see the cheapest option overall.

Data and trust

Is my bill data safe with EnergySorted?

Yes. Your data is used only to run your comparisons and is never sold. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, and you can delete your account and data at any time. See the Privacy Policy for how bill reading and analytics are handled.

How does EnergySorted make money if it takes no commissions?

From subscriptions only. Members pay a small annual or monthly fee, and that is the entire business model. Because no retailer pays EnergySorted to appear or rank higher, nothing in the comparison is for sale, which is the whole point of paying for it.
