Why some cheap plans never appear for you

Eligibility filtering: how plans you cannot actually buy are removed instead of dangled.

Updated · 6 min read

The dangled-deal problem

Plenty of comparison results include plans the customer cannot join. It makes the table look better and costs the site nothing — you only discover the problem at sign-up, when the retailer turns you down.

A plan you cannot buy is not a saving. It is removed from your ranking rather than shown and then withdrawn.

What gets a plan excluded

Equipment requirements
Plans requiring solar, a battery, an electric vehicle, a smart meter or VPP participation are removed unless you have declared the equipment.
Minimum usage
Some plans require a consumption floor. If your usage is below it, the plan is not available to you.
Network availability
Plans are sold by distribution network, not by state. Your postcode decides which set applies.
Membership and seniors plans
Plans restricted to a group you are not part of.
New-customer-only offers
If you are already with that retailer, an acquisition-only rate is not open to you.
Third-party channels
Plans only sold through a broker or an employer scheme you do not have access to.

You control the exclusions

Eligibility is driven by what you have told us: your equipment, your current retailer, and any exclusions you set yourself. If you would rather never see a plan requiring a direct debit, or from a particular retailer, you can say so once and it applies to every future comparison and alert.

This is also why keeping your equipment details current matters. Declaring solar changes which plans you can access and how they are priced, because the feed-in rate stops being decorative and starts being money.

Switching goes direct

When you decide to move, you are sent to the retailer's own site. There is no broker in between and no referral fee attached, which is a consequence of the business model rather than a policy choice — there is no commission to collect.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the plans that were excluded?

Eligibility exclusions are shown with their reason, so a plan is never silently missing.

What if I get solar or an EV later?

Update your equipment in your account and the eligible plan set changes immediately.

Do you exclude retailers you dislike?

No. Retailers are removed only when a plan or brand is genuinely no longer sold.
